Utz expands its footprint by opening a new full size facility in the city of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico.
The Utz Group is a global company with 1200 employees and production facilities in 8 countries. In the verge of its 75th anniversary (Founded in Switzerland in 1947), Utz has consolidated one key milestone strengthening its position in the growing Mexican market. The new facility is located in the historical city of San Miguel de Allende, an UNESCO world heritage town, conveniently located in the crossroads of central Mexico. This is the result of a strategic vision to support better our growing customer base and to achieve the desired growth.
The project in Mexico was launched in 2017 with a limited scope, but a strong strategic plan behind. After initial local consolidation of the brand, it was essential to add further capacities in order to grow the family of solutions to our customers, that meant a new facility. The decision to further investing in Mexico came in the middle of the most unusual crisis: a worldwide pandemic that disrupted business and life as we knew them.
Crisis are, however, also sources of opportunities and that is precisely how we see it: the opportunity to engage in rapidly growing markets. This can only be achieved with the long term commitment that characterizes our stockholders and the devotion of our growing local team. So, in late 2020 we set off the plan and start the construction of the new facility. As if building a new factory was not defiant enough, COVID19 and supply chain disruptions made the project particularly challenging. An outstanding Utz support network made possible to complete the project in time.
We have completed the new building and the transition from the old facility. We are now ready to celebrate 75 years of being the global leader for reusable plastic packaging.
